SIXTH GRADE UPDATES
Field Trip to End O Line at Currie was Fun but COLD!
St. Anne's fifth and sixth graders went to Currie to visit the End O Line Railroad Site and Museum. We learned it is the last original remaining turntable on-site in Minnesota. We were able to climb aboard a caboose and see how the men lived while riding the train. We also visited the huge museum where we saw and read facts on Hobos, Tramps, and Bums. We saw a model of the train line from Currie to Bingham Lake where passengers could then board another train to the Twin Cities. We saw a furnished school house, depot, church, foreman's house, courthouse, and the original Currie Store. Despite the cold weather, it was a great field trip and we all got a glimpse of the past through travel on the railroad. ALLLLL ABOARD!!
St. Anne's marathon concluded with the annual drawing for prizes and reward fun. This year Fr. Todd and Rene stood on top of the school and threw frisbees down for the students to catch. It was cold and windy, but it was also great fun to try to grab a frisbee as the wind blew them all over!
The sixth graders attended the Southwest Minnesota Association of Concervation Districts Environmental Fair at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. The day was interesting as students learned about Minnesota fish, prairie grasses, water quality, 3 MN rivers, recycling, and animals and their habitats.
Accelerated readers are not required this year, but they are strongly encouraged. Sixth graders may read as many A.R. books as they want and at any grade level from third grade up. All A.R. points earned will be extra credit points. So you see, reading books really will help raise your grades!
