MIDDLE STATES ACCREDITATION

MIDDLE STATES ACCREDITATION
                    WHY ACCREDITATION?

       ACCREDITATION MEANS QUALITY ASSURANCE
Accreditation is not required by state or federal laws.  It is a
voluntary, on-going improvement process designed to assure the
public of the quality of the school's offerings.  It is a peer-review
process by members of the education community who understand
what makes a good school good.
There are four components of accreditation:
   1.  A self-study process, where a school develops self-knowledge
through the lens of its philosophy, mission and beliefs.
   2. An evaluation procedure, in which peers objectively confirm
       the findings of the self-study.
   3. A planning process, where the entity plans for ongoing
       improvement.
   4. A Standards review, verified through the Middle States
       Commission.

     WHAT IS MIDDLE STATES ASSOCIATION?
It is a membership organization whose major service benefit
is to present each member school in the company of other
outstanding educational communities.
The Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools of the
Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools is one of
three accreditation units of the regional accrediting body.
MSCES works with private and public schools that serve an
elementary age population.  It has provided accreditation
protocols to schools since 1978.  All protocols rely on the
concept of peer-evaluation and self-regulation to provide
continuous school improvement.

HISTORY OF ACCREDITATION AT OUR SCHOOL
1986 - A self-study, under the supervision of the Pastor, Reverend
William Faunce and the principal, Sister M. Daniel, S. S. C.,
led to the first accreditation.  The self study was used to
support the long term implementation of complex ideas for
school expansion and improvement.

1997 - A Project Evaluation, under the supervision of the Pastor,
Reverend Eugene Gordon Cusick and the principal, Sister
Bernadette Marie, S. S. C. led to re-accreditation.  The school
chose the protocol, "Kaleidoscope of Communication - Reading,
Writing, Listening and Speaking Across the Curriculum."

2007 - A combined school and parish self-study, under the
supervision of the Pastor, Monsignor John C. Marine, and the
principal, Mrs. Florence Viola, was the approach for the next
re-accreditation.  The study, "Renewing the Vision," was
completed Spring 2007.  A strategic plan with an outlook
towards the 21st century was developed and is being
implemented over the next several years.  The execution
of the plan coincides with parish wide goals established
with parish action plans.
The Middle States Association sent a team to visit the school
November, 2007.  The team's review of the study and the school
will be published in a report which the school will receive about
three months after the visit.

Middle States Book
"Renewing the Vision" Middle States book is available in the
