Welcome to our school, where every child counts! Bienvenue à notre école où chaque enfant est important.

A.P. Low Primary Vision Statement:
A.P. Low Primary School is a safe, inviting and supportive community.  We are guided by a child-centered philosophy that fosters a cooperative, respectful, inclusive learning environment.

The A.P. Low Code of Conduct is based on the idea that every right carries with it a responsibility.  We believe that responsible pupils have the right to a pleasant, healthy, and safe school environment, good teaching and respect and fair treatment from their teachers.  In return, their teachers have the right to their pupils’ regular attendance and punctuality, preparedness for class work, reasonable effort and good manners.

During the 2018-19 school year we will be continuing the implementation of the I Care Program (a consistent approach to guide appropriate choices) along with Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) and Zones of Regulation.

Specifically, the I Care Program stems from 5 rules which include:

We listen to each other/ On s'écoute les uns les autres.
Hands are for helping, not hurting. Les mains servent à aider non à blesser.
We use I Care language.  On emploie le langage sympa.
We care about each other’s feelings. On respecte les sentiments des uns et des autres.
We are responsible for what we say and do.  On est responsable de ses paroles et de ses gestes.

We look forward to your support and involvement as we continue to implement this program.  Parents may find it helpful to use this same language when talking to their children.

A.P. Low Primary School strives to provide a caring, positive community which develops life-long learning skills through meaningful academic experiences.  We also work to promote the emotional, social and moral growth of the individual child.  The Code of Discipline supports this development.

Students must learn to work individually and with others.  Mutual respect, cooperation and sharing are important values in any school experience.  The ability to work with and for others is an important part of the learning process.  Any behaviour which shows a lack of respect for self, others, property or authority will be dealt with so that the well-being and security of everyone in the school is ensured.  The development of responsibility and self-discipline is a prime objective at A.P. Low Primary School and is an important aspect of the Code of Conduct.

There are many strategies used for dealing with classroom discipline at A.P. Low Primary;

1.    non verbal strategies,
2.    verbal strategies,
3.    informal one on one talks with students,
4.    formal talk with student to set limits,
5.    formal notification of parents,
6.    staying after school (detention),
7.    referral to Guidance Counsellor,
8.    referral to Vice-Principal or Principal,
9.    in-school or out-of-school suspension,
10.    recess detentions,
11.    removal from class activities,
12.    removal from the bus, etc.

Note: Parents may be involved during any of the stages noted on the above list.

A.P. Low has developed a Safe and Caring Schools Policy.  Parents will receive a paper copy upon request at the beginning of the school year.   Also, you may view this policy HERE .
